We are bringing mindfulness and peace to your child here at Berkeley with A Growth Mindset – Children’s Yoga Club. This practice follows the Kidding Around Yoga Curriculum that incorporates cardiovascular conditioning, fun games/music with the traditional benefits of yoga – meditation, breathing techniques, peace, and deep relaxation.

This is a one-week session. A hearty lunch offered by Sage Dining Services is an add-on option for this camp.

About the Instructor

My name is Stephanie McClelland, a Certified Kidding Around Yoga Instructure and Occupational Therapy Assistant with Kids Learning Therapy LLC.  I began practicing Occupational Therapy in 2012 in a variety of settings – pediatrics, skilled nursing and also skilled nursing and school settings.

Working at Berkeley’s Lower Division since 2021, I support students in various measures.  Areas of focus consist of fine/gross motor strength and coordination for handwriting skills, activity analysis with executive functioning skills, and providing self-regulation tools for emotional self-awareness. Teaching mindfulness, kindness and empathy are always incorporated in my sessions.  I think it is safe to say, we ALL have to learn to manage our emotions, allowing us to RESET.

I decided to take a step further in this direction by getting my certification from Kidding Around Yoga in May of 2024.  It is my hope to spread mindfulness to children everywhere by starting up my own company – A GROWTH MINDSET Children’s Yoga and Wellness LLC. I feel in my heart that it is important to start teaching these tools, early.  Heightening their awareness and guiding them to incorporate mindfulness in each individual little journey through life.

Through my own personal journey, I have met AMAZING Therapist and Yogie’s of all kinds who have helped guide me to this place.  I cannot begin to express my gratitude towards these people in my life.

After extending my practice and teaching after school yoga club at Berkeley, I am excited to start offering Mindfulness Yoga Camp over the summer.  I have hopes that kindness and inner peace will spread throughout to make this world a better and safer place for our little ones.

Adobe Photoshop is the world’s most advanced digital imaging software; if you’re looking to unleash your creative control over digital images, this workshop is for you. This enrichment will introduce the fundamental photo editing and paint software used by professionals in creative industries, from the photography world to the fields of animation, illustration, and advertising. You will learn tools ranging from exposure adjustment to the removal of unwanted elements, plus much more!

About the Instructor

Vaishali Mehta is a dedicated visual artist with a decorated background in a variety of artistic mediums. She is highly experienced in pencil & color pencil illustration. Ms. Mehta is adept at teaching in various settings such as one-on-one and or collaborative group projects. She is committed to achieving visual innovation and beauty while bringing forth the ability to work well with others and utilize art skills to visually enhance assignments. Her experience includes working in a variety of positions in art education over the last eight years. She has taught ages kindergarten to high school, allowing her to gain a strong understanding of effective course leadership. In her current position, she is utilizing Photoshop and Illustrator skills while teaching high school students.

Calling all animal lovers! Come spend a fun-filled week learning all about lots of different animals. Each day we’ll focus on a new animal: bunnies, geckos, fish, and more! Each day, campers will get to play games, make crafts, eat snacks, and learn facts about the animal of the day. The best part–we’ll have a real live animal of the day at camp with us each day! We’ll use our senses to observe and learn all about our animal friends. So, bring your animal curiosity and come spend the week learning and exploring all about our animal friends!

About the Instructor

Zoë Anderson has been a part of Berkeley’s Upper Division for the last 18 years. An avid animal lover, she owns chickens, cows, dogs, fish, bunnies, and more! Anderson loves to share her excitement for living things and inspire curiosity and exploration. She can’t wait to have a group of animal explorers join her this summer!

Learn all about your favorite animals and their habitats with Mrs. Perez and Ms. McKenna.  Campers will integrate books and technology to investigate different types of animals and their homes.  Campers will also have fun creating animal themed art and cooking projects! Perfect for future zoologists!

Week 2 (Ages 4-8)

About the Instructor

Michele McKenna joined the Berkeley faculty in 2005 and has been a Summer Programs faculty member since 2006. She is the Summer of Excellence director and currently teaches in the Pagidipati Center for Science, Engineering, and Technology (P-SET) at Berkeley. Michele has also worked in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, the learning center, and as a member of the technology team. She has presented on using technology effectively in the classroom at the Future of Education and Technology Conference, the Florida Council of Independent Schools annual conference, and the Florida Kindergarten Council annual conference. She is a Florida native, a graduate of Leto High School, and received her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University. Her son, Brandon, graduated from Berkeley in 2017, having been a student at Berkeley since pre-kindergarten.

Janine Perez has been a Lower Division Instructional Assistant at Berkeley for 20+ years.  She also serves as the Director of our Lower Division after-care program, BEEP.  Additionally, Janine has taught a variety of popular summer programs for our youngest campers.  Her interests are childrens’ yoga and mindfulness.

The Arduino course is a hands-on-educational course that teaches students how to use the Arduino platform to build and program devices, and interface them with external electronic components such as LEDs, resistors, motors and sensors.  Students will learn the basics of programming language based on C/C++, and the basics of the external electronic components.

About the Instructor

Fabiola Araujo-Cespedes is an Electrical Engineer, PhD. Specialized in designing, simulating, and testing electronic circuits for biomedical devices and industry-controlled systems. She has been teaching electrical engineering courses at the pre-college and college levels since 2005 at different universities, and institutes including the summer MOSI robotic camps and MOSI Arduino camps, the USF pre-college summer Biomedical Engineering program, and the USF Upward Bound Engineering course.

This art enrichment class is offered to incoming 6^th – 8^th graders. During this week, students will have the opportunity to experience three unique art mediums and create three finished pieces. We will begin by working with clay to produce a functional ceramic bowl. Next, students will learn new painting techniques while creating a canvas painting. Finally, students will conclude the week by using items found in nature to create a series of botanical prints.

About the Instructor
Christine Serrano earned her Bachelor of Science in Art Education K-12 from State University of New York Southampton. Christine began her teaching career in 2004 when she moved to Tampa. Before coming to Berkeley she was an art teacher in the Pasco County School District for 18-years. She spent 16 of those years at Veterans Elementary School in Wesley Chapel where she was named Teacher Of The Year in 2020. She is passionate about creating her own personal art as well as designing projects and experiences that foster a love for art with her students.

Join Ms. Ball & Mrs. Fletcher at Barbie Dream Camp, where every day brings a new adventure in Barbie’s fabulous world! Campers will whip up delicious treats like Chef Barbie and compete in the exciting Top Barbie Chef challenge. Julie Ball is a passionate educator who began her teaching career in 1996, including 15 years of dedicated summer camp leadership (with 4 summers with Berkeley Summer Programs). As a veteran science teacher and library media tech specialist (who also worked at Apple for 7 years), Julie brings a unique blend of expertise to create engaging and fun-filled summer experiences. She is enthusiastic about fostering a love for science, technology, and art, and creating lasting memories for campers.

Since 2016, Mrs. Fletcher has been a beloved summer camp instructor at Berkeley Preparatory School, bringing creativity, excitement, and a dash of magic to every session. With a career in education Mrs. Fletcher has worn many hats, including Teacher Librarian and Educational Technology Specialist. This dynamic background fuels her passion for integrating STEM education into fun, interactive camp activities. Mrs. Fletcher is known for transforming ordinary days into extraordinary adventures. With a knack for turning curiosity into discovery and play into problem-solving, Mrs. Fletcher fosters an environment where campers feel empowered to explore, create, and grow.

Join Dr. Ackerson in the Berkeley Crime Scene Investigation Lab as students attempt to solve two crimes using forensic science, critical thinking and teamwork. Each day, students will conduct experiments in one area of forensic science including fingerprint analysis, unknown substance identification, trace evidence, hair and fiber identification, and more. Students will sharpen their observation, measurement, and mathematics skills while solving daily mysteries.  Lots of fun things to bring home.  Can you catch a criminal?  Join us and find out!

About the Instructor

Dr. Nicole Ackerson grew up in Tampa and earned her Bachelor’s degree in biological science from the University of Notre Dame.  She then returned to Tampa earning a Doctoral degree in medicine from the University of South Florida.  Dr. Ackerson worked as a professional scientist for an additional four years at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, before returning home to teach science at Berkeley.  An instructor at Berkeley since 2008 from sixth to twelfth grades, Dr. Ackerson has earned three nationally recognized awards from the National Science Teachers Association and published two articles in peer-reviewed journals. She is the current chair of the science department.

Get ready for a Bluey-tastic week of fun and adventure with Mrs. Fletcher and Mrs. Campbell! Campers will dive into their favorite Bluey games like Keepy Uppy, Magic Xylophone, and Long Dog Hide-and-Seek while creating adorable crafts inspired by Bluey and her family. They’ll enjoy snacks straight from the Heeler kitchen and immerse themselves in all things Bluey. The week wraps up with a big Bluey Birthday Bash, complete with party games like pass the parcel, treats, and tons of laughter to celebrate all the joy and imagination of Bluey’s world!

She is passionate about learning and experimenting with new technology, especially when it intersects with art and creativity as in the case of video games and digital design. Mrs. Campbell is excited to share a magical, creative, and adventure-packed summer with your campers!

About the Instructor
Julia Babbo began her career at Berkeley in 2023 and is a middle division PE teacher. She also coaches the Navy Girls Soccer team and the Navy B Girls Volleyball team, sharing her expertise and enthusiasm for athletics. Julia earned her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Tampa, where she developed her strong foundation in sports education. She enjoys motivating her students and athletes to achieve their personal best on and off the field.

Kyliana Rabenold is a passionate and dedicated educator currently serving as a lower division Teaching Fellow at Berkeley. She brings fresh perspectives while fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment for her students. Kyliana holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida (2023), where she also earned endorsements in Reading and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

With a strong foundation in child development, teaching strategies, and classroom management, Kyliana is driven by a commitment to empowering young learners. She is focused on creating inclusive educational experiences that inspire curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. As she embarks on her teaching journey, Kyliana is excited to continue developing her skills, collaborating with peers, and making a positive impact in the classroom and beyond.

In Books and Beads, students will read a variety of books and bring the characters to life by creating fun, beaded creations. In this camp, we merge the world of books with the world of arts and crafts. Campers will have a blast while also developing their fine motor skills.

About the Instructor
Sydney Mattera is a sixth-grade Language Arts teacher at Berkeley Preparatory School. Over the years, she has embraced many roles within the Berkeley community, including first-grade instructional assistant, fifth-grade long-term substitute, director of the Lower Division’s performing arts club, Encore!, and assistant director of Artists of Tomorrow. She is also an alumna of Berkeley. While working at Berkeley, she earned her master’s degree from the University of South Florida. Sydney loves working with children of all ages and helping them build confidence by taking risks in a safe and supportive environment. Her passions include dancing, singing, reading, and spending quality time with her family.

Tina Jones is the Admissions Associate in the Lower Division Admissions office at Berkeley Preparatory School, a position she has held since 2010. With over 20 years of experience working with children of all ages, Tina is dedicated to supporting both students and their families. In addition to her admissions role, she also contributes to Berkeley’s Extended Enrichment program, where she supervises after-school activities for students. Outside of her professional life, Tina enjoys attending concerts, solving puzzles,  traveling, and spending quality time with her husband and two children.

Bricks 4 Kidz and Board One Chess Academy are excited to offer this one-of-a-kind camp to the summer 2025 camp programming once again! This fun and educational week will be an exciting blend of LEGO® robotics and LEGO® art and the strategic game of chess! Campers will spend half the day in whole group and small group chess instruction using a Smartboard projector and will learn chess fundamentals, tricks, and tactics. The emphasis will be on the joy of the game, but with a close eye to the student’s progress. The other half of the day will be filled with the signature LEGO® motorized robotics, 3D, and mosaic art models of Bricks 4 Kidz, but with a chess twist. Each day campers will build LEGO® models that tie into the game of chess! This fun, educational, week-long camp is for chess players and LEGO® builders of all levels!

Experience the worlds of MINECRAFT and ROBLOX with LEGO® bricks in this one of kind camp that we are holding for the very first time! Kids everywhere are infatuated with the online games MINECRAFT and ROBLOX. But at Bricks 4 Kidz, we don’t want our campers to have to choose. So, for the first time ever, we are mashing both themes up and giving our campers an amazing experience, where they will get to bring the virtual world to life by creating LEGO® robots, LEGO® mosaic art, LEGO® 3D art, and much more based on the popular characters from the MINECRAFT and ROBLOX games! Campers will face new challenges each day, building LEGO® models and crafting key elements from the popular MINECRAFT and ROBLOX games! So, are you ready for the challenge? 

All campers will take home fun crafts and have photos taken of all the LEGO® models they made throughout the week and take home a custom-made LEGO® minifigure!

It seems like every year, both Marvel and DC comics are coming out with brand new Superhero TV series and movies. Which only means on thing….the superpowers of our LEGO® Superhero camp have just gotten even more SUPER amazing!

This camp is full of all your favorite Marvel and DC superheroes! Spider Man, Captain America, Batman, Iron Man, Wonder Woman, Superman, Thor, Aquaman, The Flash, Black Widow, The Hulk, and much more! We have even added more characters to our Super Team so our campers can bring these powers to life using LEGO® bricks! One day we will be building a flying LEGO® Superman, and the next we will be chasing down the villains of the Avengers! Whether you love Marvel superheroes, DC superheroes, or both, this camp will be a hit for all super kids!

Week 4 (ages 5-12)

We live in one of the greatest cities in the world, Tampa! And what better way to pay homage to this great city than to build it out LEGO® bricks! This camp is for our future engineers, architects, city planners, and creative visionaries! Our campers will construct a LEGO® City of Tampa of their own, and each day we will be giving campers a different city project to construct. Campers will make models like a LEGO® Raymond James Stadium where the Bucs play, a Tampa Bay Lighting hockey player that shoots LEGO® pucks, the super awesome Tampa Riverwalk, sail the seas with Jose Gaspar on a LEGO® pirate ship for Gasparilla, create LEGO® art to install in the Art Museum, and much more! AND we will be teaching campers how to make LEGO® cars, planes, trains, cranes, skyscrapers, airports, police and fire stations, and all the other very important elements that make the City of Tampa run!

All campers will take home fun crafts and have photos taken of all the fun LEGO® models they made throughout the week and take home a custom-made LEGO® minifigure!

Abracadabra! Bricks 4 Kidz is excited to bring back our very popular LEGO® Magic Camp! 

This week of magic LEGO® camp will have our campers building the mythical and magical worlds and characters from some of the most popular movies, tv shows, and toys such as Harry Potter, Onward, Trolls, Aladdin, Mary Poppins, Frozen, How To Train Your Dragon, Jumanji, The Hobbit, and much more! Campers will create LEGO® robotic Harry Potters that fly on their broomsticks and soar on the magic Genie’s carpet, all out of LEGO® bricks. They will make their own magic with Poppy, Branch, and the rest of the Trolls one day, and defend their castles from fire-breathing dragons with magical spells the next. And the best part? We will be teaching the kids some amazing Magic Tricks that they can use on their friends at home!

Bricks 4 Kidz is proud to present our most popular camp to close out the Summer 2025! The Bricktastic LEGO® Mashup Camp! This summer will be completely different than previous summers, as we have added a whole lot of new LEGO® models and new themes to this camp! 

At this awesome camp, all campers will create LEGO® models based on the most popular themes today such as MINECRAFT, Super Mario Bros., STAR WARS, Superheroes, Roblox, Jurassic World, LEGO® Friends, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Animals, Harry Potter, LEGO® City, Pokémon, LEGO® Ninjago, Pirates, Disney, Sports, and much more! 

Campers will experience a different theme each day. Your Master Builder will have a chance to create LEGO® motorized robotic models, LEGO® 3D color brick builds, LEGO® mosaic art, and learn different design and building techniques using LEGO® bricks! Have fun building LEGO® Creepers from MINECRAFT and Captain America’s shield one day, and play Quidditch with Harry Potter and fly LEGO® airplanes the next! Can’t decide which you like more?

In this full-day camp with Mrs. Keller, Mrs. McDonough, and Mrs. Bellegarrigue, children will test themselves in a fun-filled camp that promotes teamwork and team building. Daily challenges will push them academically, mentally and physically in their quest to be the best team. Competitions include reading challenges, STEM activities, math problem solving, cooking and sporting events!

Weeks 3 and 4 (incoming 2nd – 5th)

About the Instructor
Erica Bellegarrigue has been practicing occupational therapy for over 20-years, graduating from the University of Florida Occupational Therapy program. She has extensive training in sensory integration, handwriting without tears, and neurodevelopmental techniques. She has helped children with a variety of diagnoses including sensory processing disorders, developmental delays; orthopedic, visual, neurological conditions, and more. She continues to touch the lives of many children through her fun-loving and collaborative technique.

Allie Keller began her educational career in 2003 and is the lead first grade teacher at Berkeley Preparatory School. She graduated from the University of Florida and continued her education receiving her Masters in Elementary Education at the University of South Florida. She has been teaching at Berkeley for 17-years in addition to teaching in Northern Virginia for 3-years.  Allie remains passionate about working with early childhood students and helping them to develop a love of learning. Allie loves aiding children in the reading process through phonics games, reader’s theater, movement and enjoying amazing literature.  A fun fact about Allie is she is a Berkeley Alumni and is thrilled to be back at the school she loves!

Rachel McDonough began her Berkeley teaching career in 2010.  She has an M.S.ed from Duquesne University and has been certified in Orton Gillingham, Words their Way, and Linda Mood Bell to name a few.  Her expertise helps students build a strong foundation in their learning, as they develop a confidence to try challenging tasks. Rachel loves working with all children and is excited for the opportunity to work with yours!

Welcome to Camp WonderPlay, where every day is filled with creativity and new friendships! Campers will explore Art & Imagination, Science & Discovery, Outdoor Adventure, Theater & Storytelling, and a cozy Camping-Themed Farewell! They’ll dive into hands-on crafts, go on exciting scavenger hunts, blow giant bubbles, make colorful slime, and design their own bracelets. Katie Sullivan is a fourth-grade teacher at Berkeley Preparatory School. She began her career in elementary education in 2009 and has been with BPS since 2020. Katie holds a master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida (USF). She is also the proud parent of two children—one in the Lower Division and the other in the Middle Division at Berkeley.

In this engineering based camp, we’ll design and create all kinds of carnival games, learning the engineering behind them, and some tips and tricks on how to play them. About the Instructor

Tamarah Henderson has been designing unique and imaginative summer camps at Berkeley Preparatory School since 2000, with a focus on engineering, technology, and childhood creative play. She focuses on creating engaging experiences for children to explore, create, and learn while having fun. Tamarah has a Masters of Education, Instructional Technology, from USF, and is currently one of the Early Childhood C-SET teachers.

Janey DePew began her educational career at Berkeley in 2001 and has focused on early childhood learning.  In that time, Janey spent many years teaching Pre-Kindergarten before becoming an Early Childhood Learning Support Teacher.  In her current role, Janey works with Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade students.  Janey is committed to providing support and guidance to each child in her care.  Most importantly, Janey fosters a passion for a lifelong love of learning in her students.  She finds joy in making each child smile and combines current research in child development with her many years as a teacher to make fun and engaging lesson plans.  Janey is looking forward to once again bringing her experience in the classroom to the Berkeley Summer Program.  One of her biggest goals is to make students excited about learning.  Janey has a degree in Elementary Education, Certification in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.

Chess summer camps are the perfect way to introduce the game of chess to beginning students or sharpen the skills of tournament players. Coach Steve and his team of coaches will provide daily classes, opening workshops, and observation of tournament games. Campers will be placed in groups appropriate to their age and skill level. Most of our class time will be dedicated to analysis of student’s games; these custom lessons are more engaging and relevant to the campers.  Campers will also participate in recess and other activities.

The Electronics course is a hands-on educational program that introduce students to the fundamental concepts of electricity and electronics through engaging, practical activities, allowing them to build simple circuits using basic components like wires, batteries, LEDs, resistors, and switches, while learning about concepts like voltage, current, resistance, and circuit design, all while creating working projects, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills within a safe and exploratory learning environment.

Fabiola Araujo-Cespedes is an Electrical Engineer, PhD. Specialized in designing, simulating, and testing electronic circuits for biomedical devices and industry-controlled systems. She has been teaching electrical engineering courses at the pre-college and college levels since 2005 at different universities, and institutes including the summer MOSI robotic camps and MOSI Arduino camps, the USF pre-college summer Biomedical Engineering program, and the USF Upward Bound Engineering course.

Interesting in learning about computers and all the fun things you can create with a computer? Computer Science Discoveries is an introduction to many topics in computer science such as problem solving, programming, physical computing, user centered design, and data. Students will have the opportunity to build their own websites, apps, animations, games, and physical computing systems. No prior knowledge necessary! Sign up for one week or multiple weeks. Students will learn new topics each week they are enrolled. All students need to bring their own laptop – iPads will not work.

Vincent Cimmino is currently the Upper School Computer Science Teacher here at Berkeley Prep. He is originally from the Boston area where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems Technology with a minor in Mathematics from Bridgewater State University. Mr. Cimmino began his career in education in 2003. He is excited to bring his experience to Tampa and work towards building a strong computer science program at Berkeley while giving students plenty of opportunities to explore their interests in this field of study.

During these 5 days, campers will step into a forest of Cricut crafting possibilities. Each camper will make their own camp essentials- a hat, drawstring bag and Camp Shirt. Staying hydrated is essential at camp, and each camper will make their own custom water bottle. The fun doesn’t need to stop at the end of the day. Want to improve your ability to discern an argument, articulate a position, or add research to your opinions? This camp will engage in discussion, argumentation, and speech-writing based on current events and critical concepts such as democracy, protest, or even globalization.  Students can take the camp during multiple weeks because there will be very little overlap.

About the Instructor
Dr. Kevin Douglas Kuswa is the co-author of Argumentation and Critical Thought: An Introduction to Advocacy, Reasoning, and Rhetorical Analysis, a textbook used in debate classes at the collegiate level. Dr. Kuswa’s students have been successful at every stage, winning virtually every debate tournament in the country on the high school and collegiate levels. He has been teaching and coaching debate for multiple decades at institutions such as the University of Richmond, California State University, the University of South Carolina, and Dartmouth College (where his team won the National Debate Championship). Dr. Kuswa himself won the National Championship debating for Georgetown University where he received a degree from the School of Foreign Service. Earning his PhD in Communication Studies with a specialty in Rhetoric from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Kuswa has presented his scholarship at numerous conferences and published pieces in the top journals in the field such as the Quarterly Journal of Speech, Rhetoric and Public Affairs, and Argumentation and Advocacy. 

Dr. Kuswa teaches Ethics, World Religion, Honors International Relations, Anthropology, and Sociology during the year in addition to his role as the Debate Coach.  Dr. Kuswa will be joined by other BPS faculty as well as former and current BPS debaters to provide a small student to faculty ratio and expertise from multiple perspectives.

Krystin Vega is a New York native, graduating with a master’s in general and special education. Krystin has been teaching at Berkeley since 2016 and has led various afterschool clubs, including a successful cooking club. Krystin has also completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training and incorporates mindfulness and movement techniques to help kids build focus and self-regulation skills. About the Instructor
Michele McKenna joined the Berkeley faculty in 2005 and has been a Summer Programs faculty member since 2006. She is the Summer of Excellence director and currently teaches in the Pagidipati Center for Science, Engineering, and Technology (P-SET) at Berkeley. Michele has also worked in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, the learning center, and as a member of the technology team. She has presented on using technology effectively in the classroom at the Future of Education and Technology Conference, the Florida Council of Independent Schools annual conference, and the Florida Kindergarten Council annual conference. She is a Florida native, a graduate of Leto High School, and received her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University. Her son, Brandon, graduated from Berkeley in 2017, having been a student at Berkeley since pre-kindergarten.

Janine Perez has been a Lower Division Instructional Assistant at Berkeley for 20+ years.  She also serves as the Director of our Lower Division after-care program, BEEP.  Additionally, Janine has taught a variety of popular summer programs for our youngest campers.  Her interests are childrens’ yoga and mindfulness.

Stephanie began her career as an English teacher in 1998 and has been a dedicated member of the Berkeley community since 2011. As the Middle Division Assistant Director, she supports students, faculty, and families while fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. With a background in School Counseling and English education, Stephanie works closely with Middle Division students, particularly guiding eighth graders as they develop individual speeches presented to the Middle Division community. Over the years, she has also contributed to Berkeley’s summer programs, sharing her passion for teaching and her expertise in writing. Outside of work, Stephanie enjoys experimenting with new recipes, getting lost in a good book, and caring for her collection of indoor plants. These hobbies reflect her creativity and nurturing spirit, which she brings to her work with students every day.

She is also an alumna of Berkeley. While working at Berkeley, she received her Master’s Degree from USF. She loves working with children of all ages and helping them learn to take risks in a safe space. Her passions include dancing, singing, reading, and spending quality time with her family.

Tina Jones is the Admissions Associate in the Lower Division Admissions office at Berkeley Preparatory School, a position she has held since 2010. With over 20 years of experience working with children of all ages, Tina is dedicated to supporting both students and their families. In addition to her admissions role, she also contributes to Berkeley’s Extended Enrichment program, where she supervises after-school activities for students. Outside of her professional life, Tina enjoys attending concerts, solving puzzles,  traveling, and spending quality time with her husband and two children.

She enjoys motivating her students and athletes to achieve their personal best on and off the field.

Kyliana Rabenold is a passionate and dedicated educator currently serving as a lower division Teaching Fellow at Berkeley. She brings fresh perspectives while fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment for her students. Kyliana holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida (2023), where she also earned endorsements in Reading and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

The goal of this camp is to aid children with handwriting instruction and the strengthening of fine/gross motor skills through exciting hands-on art projects, letter games, sensory experiences, and other occupational therapy techniques.

Utilizing curriculum created by Erica Bellegarrigue, Berkeley’s highly regarded and sought out Occupational Therapist, your child can work this summer with First Grade Instructional Assistant, Ms. Lori Childers, and a Berkeley Pre-K-2nd Spanish teacher, Krystin Vega, to solidify their handwriting foundation and strengthen their fine motor skills. Campers will rotate in groups divided by age/ability levels through learning centers that reinforce correct letter and number formation in fun and exciting ways!  We will work to correct reversals while at the same time practice correct pencil grip. The children will also perform specific activities to improve bilateral coordination, hand dominance, and finger strengthening. The children will then rotate through fun art projects to reinforce these skills. Finally, the campers will play to strengthen their core, arms, and legs through movement, games, and outdoor play.

Week 2 (ages 4-7)

About the Instructor

Ms. Childers began her educational career in 2006 at Riverside Presbyterian Day School in Jacksonville, Florida. Lori has been privileged to work with students and teachers in a variety of K-6 settings. Ms. Childers is trained in both the Handwriting Without Tears and Orton-Gillingham programs. She has worked as an instructional assistant at Berkeley, beginning in Pre-K and now in First Grade. Before Berkeley, she was a Social Worker in Jacksonville, Florida working with children of all ages. Ms. Childers is also the proud mother of two Berkeley graduates, Caroline and Davis.

Ms. Childers’ goal is to create academically engaging learning experiences through an environment that is positive and challenging.

Krystin Vega is a New York native, graduating with a master’s in general and special education. Audrey Paglia has been a fourth grade teacher here at Berkeley Preparatory School since 2022. Along with teaching during the school year Audrey coaches cross country and track. Last summer Audrey coached various enrichment camps and worked with second graders in the Summer of Excellence Program. Before her time at Berkeley she ran at the collegiate level, earned her master’s degree from Lake Forest College, and taught 3rd grade in Chicago, IL.

Dr. Ceni Tavarez is a proud graduate of the University of South Florida. Her career in public and private education spans 25+ years of working in various roles. About the Instructor

Master Eboné Smith is a 5th-degree black belt (Godan) in Ja Go Jitsu Ryu, the 3rd generation of GOJU Karate under Grandmaster Frank Ruiz of Nisei GoJu Ryu. Her extensive training includes Karate, Jitsu, Judo, and Aikido. With over 20 years of experience in learning and teaching martial arts, Eboné has honed her skills and dedicated herself to the discipline.

Eboné’s journey began at the age of five, training under the guidance and leadership of Grandmaster Louis A. Jackson—her father. Growing up as the child of THE Sensei, she had a love-hate relationship with martial arts. It wasn’t until high school that Eboné began to truly enjoy Karate, blending traditional martial arts with her own creative twist: performing katas and techniques in high heels, and teaching other girls how to fight in them.

Martial arts have significantly shaped Eboné’s confidence and self-worth, instilling in her the belief that nothing is impossible. She is passionate about promoting the idea that femininity, intelligence, and strength are not mutually exclusive.

Allie Keller began her educational career in 2003 and is the lead first grade teacher at Berkeley Preparatory School. She graduated from the University of Florida and continued her education receiving her Masters in Elementary Education at the University of South Florida. She has been teaching at Berkeley for 17-years in addition to teaching in Northern Virginia for 3-years.  Allie remains passionate about working with early childhood students and helping them to develop a love of learning. Allie loves aiding children in the reading process through phonics games, reader’s theater, movement and enjoying amazing literature.  A fun fact about Allie is she is a Berkeley Alumni and is thrilled to be back at the school she loves!

Rachel McDonough began her Berkeley teaching career in 2010.  She has an M.S.ed from Duquesne University and has been certified in Orton Gillingham, Words their Way, and Linda Mood Bell to name a few.  Her expertise helps students build a strong foundation in their learning, as they develop a confidence to try challenging tasks. Welcome to Kids Jewelry Jamboree! In this camp, we will explore the creative and fun world of jewelry making. Through this camp, kids will not only learn the basic skills of jewelry making, but also build on their fine motor skills, learn to collaborate with others, and create lasting memories. Our jewelry creations focus on patterns, colors, coordination, dexterity, and creativity. Students will create various pieces of jewelry to take home. Michele McKenna joined the Berkeley faculty in 2005 and has been a Summer Programs faculty member since 2006. She is the Summer of Excellence director and currently teaches in the Pagidipati Center for Science, Engineering, and Technology (P-SET) at Berkeley. Michele has also worked in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, the learning center, and as a member of the technology team. She has presented on using technology effectively in the classroom at the Future of Education and Technology Conference, the Florida Council of Independent Schools annual conference, and the Florida Kindergarten Council annual conference. She is a Florida native, a graduate of Leto High School, and received her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University. Her son, Brandon, graduated from Berkeley in 2017, having been a student at Berkeley since pre-kindergarten.

Brendan Fletcher is Director, Trial Attorney in USAA’s Tampa Staff Counsel Office, where he leads a team of dedicated trial attorneys and legal assistants who represent USAA in litigation throughout the State of Florida. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2008 and previously spent time with the law firm of Barr, Murman, & Tonelli and the USAA Tampa Staff Counsel Office as a trial attorney where he participated in multiple jury trials. Prior to his current role, he served as a Senior Attorney in P&C Counsel, where he acted as the lead in-house attorney for the Claims Department. He earned a B.A. in Political Science with honors and his B.S. in Public Relations with highest honors from the University of Florida in 2005. He continued his education at the Stetson University College of Law, where he obtained his J.D. with honors, and at Stetson University, where he obtained his master’s in Business Administration. During his time at Stetson, he was also the recipient of the Victor O. Wehle Trial Advocacy Award, given to top graduates with excellence in Trial Advocacy.

Sydney Mattera is a sixth-grade Language Arts teacher at Berkeley Preparatory School. Over the years, she has embraced many roles within the Berkeley community, including first-grade instructional assistant, fifth-grade long-term substitute, director of the Lower Division’s performing arts club, Encore!, and assistant director of Artists of Tomorrow. She is also an alumna of Berkeley. While working at Berkeley, she earned her Master’s Degree from the University of South Florida. Sydney loves working with children of all ages and helping them build confidence by taking risks in a safe and supportive environment. Her passions include dancing, singing, reading, and spending quality time with her family.

Tina Jones is the Admissions Associate in the Lower Division Admissions office at Berkeley Preparatory School, a position she has held since 2010. With over 20 years of experience working with children of all ages, Tina is dedicated to supporting both students and their families. In addition to her admissions role, she also contributes to Berkeley’s Extended Enrichment program, where she supervises after-school activities for students. Outside of her professional life, Tina enjoys attending concerts, solving puzzles,  traveling, and spending quality time with her husband and two children.

Mandy Gregg serves as a second-grade educator at Berkeley Preparatory School, where she has been a valued member of the faculty since 2019. Her teaching career encompasses experience in various early childhood and elementary grade levels, including pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. Gregg earned her bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University.

Allie Keller began her educational career in 2003 and is the lead first grade teacher at Berkeley Preparatory School. She graduated from the University of Florida and continued her education receiving her Masters in Elementary Education at the University of South Florida. She has been teaching at Berkeley for 17-years in addition to teaching in Northern Virginia for 3-years.  Allie remains passionate about working with early childhood students and helping them to develop a love of learning. Allie loves aiding children in the reading process through phonics games, reader’s theater, movement and enjoying amazing literature.  A fun fact about Allie is she is a Berkeley Alumni and is thrilled to be back at the school she loves!

Katie Leavy, is a Pre-Kindergarten Instructional Assistant at Berkeley Preparatory School. She is passionate about early childhood education and loves being a part of creating a nurturing environment where children can grow and explore. She loves helping students build a strong foundation while watching them grow in every way! She is excited to be part of summer programs again this year, and can’t wait to help children discover new ideas and develop important skills in a fun, engaging setting!

Rachel McDonough began her Berkeley teaching career in 2010.  She has an M.S.ed from Duquesne University and has been certified in Orton Gillingham, Words their Way, and Linda Mood Bell to name a few.  Her expertise helps students build a strong foundation in their learning, as they develop a confidence to try challenging tasks. Rachel loves working with all children and is excited for the opportunity to work with yours!

Jennifer Stoll is a second grade teacher at Berkeley Preparatory School.  Having joined the Berkeley faculty in 2014, Stoll has taught second grade, third grade, and fourth grade during her time as a Lower Division teacher. Stoll has a bachelor’s degree from Saint Joseph’s University in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Special Education from LeMoyne College.

Courtney Walker is the Middle Division Librarian, Tech Coordinator and Elder Digital Lab Supervisor at Berkeley Preparatory School since 2018. She has taught English, creative writing, art, research and technology locally and abroad in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. She loves combining storytelling and art through many different mediums like drawing, painting, collaging, digital illustration, and virtual world designing. Christina Campbell is the Upper Division library media specialist here at Berkeley, and she has taught in all three divisions. Growing up with an art teacher mom and an architect dad, she has picked up many creative skills including knitting, bookbinding, origami, painting, drawing, sculpting, and pottery. She is passionate about learning and experimenting with new technology, especially when it intersects with art and creativity as in the case of video games and digital design. In addition, she is happy to announce she will be joining the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry staff as their new herbology professor and potions master! Audrey Paglia has been a fourth grade teacher here at Berkeley Preparatory School since 2022. Along with teaching during the school year Audrey coaches cross country and track. Last summer Audrey coached various enrichment camps and worked with second graders in the Summer of Excellence Program. Before her time at Berkeley she ran at the collegiate level, earned her master’s degree from Lake Forest College, and taught 3rd grade in Chicago, IL.

Katie Sullivan is a fourth-grade teacher at Berkeley Preparatory School. She began her career in elementary education in 2009 and has been with BPS since 2020. Katie holds a master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida (USF). She is also the proud parent of two children—one in the Lower Division and the other in the Middle Division at Berkeley.

Krystin Vega is a New York native, graduating with a master’s in general and special education. Krystin has been teaching at Berkeley since 2016 and has led various afterschool clubs, including a successful cooking club. Krystin has also completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training and incorporates mindfulness and movement techniques to help kids build focus and self-regulation skills. She has a passion for learning and believes in providing a fun and safe environment to empower her students to find joy in learning as well.

Tamarah Henderson and Gail Driscoll, long-time technology teachers and innovators, love introducing programming concepts to a new generation! Learn the fun of coding and programming with robotics, coding apps, websites, and Apple Swift language. Using Osmos, Blue Bots, ProBots, and more, students will learn to program using code, sound, light, and touch. We’ll balance out the gadgetry and screen time with lots of hands-on building and play.

Tamarah has a Masters of Education, Instructional Technology, from USF, and is currently one of the Early Childhood C-SET teachers.

Gail Driscoll taught Computer Science at Berkeley Lower Division for 18-years. She loves sharing technology, filmmaking, and innovative learning techniques with her students. Welcome to a fun and action-packed week of play with popular robots like Ozobot and Dash. In this exciting camp led by Mrs. Fletcher and Ms. Ball campers will learn the basics of coding as they teach their robots how to dance, bowl, navigate a maze, and compete in the Robot Olympics!!  Campers will start the week playing various screen-free coding games as they learn coding terminology.  The fun continues as we integrate iPad coding applications, circuits, and team-building games.  Campers will even build their own bristle bot robot to take home!

The Robotics VEX course is a hands-on educational program that teaches students STEM principles by designing, building, and programming robots using the VEX Robotics platform, focusing on developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, teamwork, and engineering design through a competitive robotics environment where students construct robots to complete specific challenges.

Fabiola Araujo-Cespedes is an Electrical Engineer, PhD. Specialized in designing, simulating, and testing electronic circuits for biomedical devices and industry-controlled systems. She has been teaching electrical engineering courses at the pre-college and college levels since 2005 at different universities, and institutes including the summer MOSI robotic camps and MOSI Arduino camps, the USF pre-college summer Biomedical Engineering program, and the USF Upward Bound Engineering course.

About the Instructor

Master Eboné Smith is a 5th-degree black belt (Godan) in Ja Go Jitsu Ryu, the 3rd generation of GOJU Karate under Grandmaster Frank Ruiz of Nisei GoJu Ryu. Her extensive training includes Karate, Jitsu, Judo, and Aikido. With over 20 years of experience in learning and teaching martial arts, Eboné has honed her skills and dedicated herself to the discipline.

Eboné’s journey began at the age of five, training under the guidance and leadership of Grandmaster Louis A. Jackson—her father. Growing up as the child of THE Sensei, she had a love-hate relationship with martial arts. It wasn’t until high school that Eboné began to truly enjoy Karate, blending traditional martial arts with her own creative twist: performing katas and techniques in high heels, and teaching other girls how to fight in them.

Martial arts have significantly shaped Eboné’s confidence and self-worth, instilling in her the belief that nothing is impossible. She is passionate about promoting the idea that femininity, intelligence, and strength are not mutually exclusive.

Mr. Palumbo is a dedicated biology educator with a passion for sharing his knowledge. With a background in Psychobiology and a certification in personal training, Mr. Palumbo brings a unique perspective to the classroom. He is also an avid basketball coach.

In the Imaginarium dreams take flight.  In this one week camp, campers will learn to use 3D printers, laser cutters and cricut sticker makers!  Campers will use their new found skills to solve an escape room type challenge and then create a board game to play and share. Week 6 (incoming 5th – 8th)

About the Instructor
Dr. Nicole Ackerson grew up in Tampa and earned her Bachelor’s degree in biological science from the University of Notre Dame.  She then returned to Tampa earning a Doctoral degree in medicine from the University of South Florida.  Dr. Ackerson worked as a professional scientist for an additional four years at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, before returning home to teach science at Berkeley.  An instructor at Berkeley since 2008 from sixth to twelfth grades, Dr. Ackerson has earned three nationally recognized awards from the National Science Teachers Association and published two articles in peer-reviewed journals. She is the current chair of the science department.

Lizzie Goodwin is a Kindergarten Instructional Assistant at Berkeley Preparatory School. A Tampa native, Lizzie earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education from the University of Florida. After graduation, she moved to New York City, where she began her teaching journey by working with preschool-aged children. Lizzie returned to Tampa to join the Berkeley community, where she started as a First Grade Instructional Assistant. She is deeply dedicated to helping her students discover their unique identities and reach their full potential, fostering a love of learning along the way.

In her 15+ years as an educator in California and Florida, Lindsey has been privileged to work with students and teachers in a variety of K-6 settings. She has worked as a first grade lead classroom teacher at Berkeley, beginning as an Instructional Assistant, and substitute. Prior to those roles, she was an Interventionist for grades 3-5 in San Diego, as well as a Second and Fourth Grade lead teacher. Lindsey’s goal is to create academically engaging learning experiences through an environment that fosters creativity, curiosity, and kindness. She is committed to sharing her passion for literacy and learning with every student.

The keyboarding camp is for students that want to develop proper keyboarding skills that will lead to more proficient typing ability. The lessons will be a combination of fun exercises and games that lead to improved capability. The student can expect to have a much higher words per minute average typing rate without having to look at their fingers by the end of the camp. The techniques learned in this class will lead to a lifetime of continued proficiency as the student continues to use a computer.

Tamarah Henderson has been designing unique and imaginative summer camps at Berkeley Preparatory School since 2000, with a focus on engineering, technology, and childhood creative play. She focuses on creating engaging experiences for children to explore, create, and learn while having fun. Tamarah has a Masters of Education, Instructional Technology, from USF, and is currently one of the Early Childhood C-SET teachers.

Janey DePew began her educational career at Berkeley in 2001 and has focused on early childhood learning.  In that time, Janey spent many years teaching Pre-Kindergarten before becoming an Early Childhood Learning Support Teacher.  In her current role, Janey works with Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade students.  Janey is committed to providing support and guidance to each child in her care.  Most importantly, Janey fosters a passion for a lifelong love of learning in her students.  She finds joy in making each child smile and combines current research in child development with her many years as a teacher to make fun and engaging lesson plans.  Janey is looking forward to once again bringing her experience in the classroom to the Berkeley Summer Program.  One of her biggest goals is to make students excited about learning.  Janey has a degree in Elementary Education, Certification in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.

Tamarah Henderson and Gail Driscoll have lots of messy and creative hands-on projects for your little engineers. Our activities build fine motor skills, including scissor skills, painting, sewing and tying, measuring and building. As we explore different engineering occupations, we’ll build exciting projects and learn how engineers think! We’ll use lots of real kid-friendly tools and build and create with imagination and fun.

This is a one-week session.  A hearty lunch provided by Sage Dining Services is an add-on option for this camp.

Gail Driscoll taught Computer Science at Berkeley Lower Division for 18-years. She loves sharing technology, filmmaking, and innovative learning techniques with her students. She is a Florida certified K-12 Computer Science teacher. She has run summer camps in technology and engineering along with Tamarah Henderson for many years. Gail has a Masters of Education from Loyola University, Chicago.
